3 Things to consider before booking a family holiday
Travel restrictions are easing in the UK and dare I say it life is starting to return to some sort of normality, with many of us now starting to think about booking a family holiday.
However, it has been so long since many of us have been able to book a carefree holiday that it feels like we are all starting from scratch when it comes to finding the right holiday for us as a family.
Here are 3 things to consider before you book your family holiday:
Location –
Where are you planning to go, staying in the UK or heading abroad? Location is the key thing you need to consider before you book a family holiday or any holiday in fact.
With 2 children, when it comes to location, I always think about the travel time for the holiday. We are very fortunate to live close to an airport which means other than the airport waits, there is minimal travel time when we leave or get back. Both of our kids are happy to fly too and as they can get up and about on the flight it doesn’t feel like they are restrained however, we do take into consideration the time to get to our destination on the other side. This is why when we fly to Lanzarote we always stay in Costa Teguise as it is only 20 minutes or so from the airport so no stress.
Although we have the benefit of the airport, if we stay in the UK we are stuck in the middle which means we are at least almost 2 hours from the sea in any direction. This means if we choose to have a UK holiday we will need to probably travel at least 3 – 4 hours to reach the seaside and locations that many of us love. It is easy enough to do, just with plenty of loo breaks and leg stretching!
The travel time is not the only thing you need to consider, you need to look at the location to all the things you would like to do too. It is fine to travel to the location but you don’t want to spend your whole holiday on the road getting to and from the venues you are visiting.
Accommodation –
We are fans of accommodation close to the beach, within walking distance is ideal and we always take this into consideration when booking our trips.
When you start looking for your accommodation, you need to have a list in mind of your priorities so you are able to narrow down your accommodation. If all-inclusive is something you love as the kids can enjoy their ice creams and drinks all day long without costing you a small fortune, then put it to the top of the list. For those of you like us, if the beach is the important thing, make sure your search range is within walking distance of the beach.
Everyone’s accommodation needs will vary, especially if you have a family as many of you will have different priorities. So making sure the accommodation meets your family needs is the most important thing.
Excursions –
After so many months couped up, many of us want to get out in the world and enjoy what it has to offer.
When you are planning your trip and start to look at the excursions on offer in the area, picking things closer to your base will save on travel time and allow you time to enjoy your holiday a little more. If you do pick excursions further away be sure to have something to keep the kids occupied such as old movies or games.
We do however always do a couple of day trips to get out and enjoy the beautiful country we are in. This is just to break our holiday up a little and give the kids the chance to see more of the world. Planning ahead on your excursions could also save you in the long run too, if you are heading to Lanzarote we love Rancho Texas and will share our thoughts on this in future.
Hopefully, these tips will get you started on planning your amazing holiday and I’d love to hear where your first stop will be when you can travel again!
